ScanCart - Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 17, 2026
ScanCart is developed by Elmvick. This Privacy Policy explains how information is accessed, collected, used, stored, and shared when you use the ScanCart mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
Camera. ScanCart may request Camera access so you can scan product barcodes. Camera access is used for barcode scanning inside the app. ScanCart does not use the camera for unrelated monitoring.
Location. ScanCart may request Location access to find nearby stores, help you confirm the store where you are shopping, calculate distance from a selected store, and attach useful location context to price reports.
Anonymous identifiers and account data. ScanCart may use Firebase Authentication, including anonymous sign-in, to create an app user identifier. This helps submit price reports, reduce spam or abuse, calculate contribution trust, and keep community data more reliable.
Product, store, and price report data. When you scan products or submit prices, ScanCart may collect and store barcode values, product names, store identifiers, store location details, submitted prices, timestamps, report source, and related confidence or moderation signals.
Local cart and shopping history. ScanCart may store active carts, finished cart history, scanned products, entered prices, and shopping-session details locally on your device.
Firebase services and analytics. ScanCart may use Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Firebase Analytics to operate the app, protect against abuse, understand app usage, diagnose problems, and improve the service.
Public product lookup sources. ScanCart may use public product sources such as Open Food Facts to look up product names, brands, quantities, categories, or images based on scanned barcodes.
2. How We Use Information
ScanCart uses information to scan and identify products, show and calculate your cart total, find or confirm nearby stores, submit community price reports, calculate trusted prices and freshness signals, detect suspicious activity, and improve reliability, safety, and performance.
3. How Information Is Shared
ScanCart does not sell personal data. Community price data, product data, and store data may be stored in the backend and used to show price information to other users. Service providers such as Firebase process data as needed to operate the app.
4. Data Storage, Retention, and Deletion
Local cart and shopping history may be stored on your device until you delete it, clear app data, or uninstall the app. Submitted price reports, product data, and store data may be retained for as long as needed to operate the community price map, preserve historical context, prevent abuse, and improve trust calculations.
You can request help with deletion or privacy questions by contacting support@elmvick.com. Some community records may be retained in aggregated, moderated, or anonymized form when needed to protect the integrity of the price database.
5. Security
ScanCart uses standard platform and Firebase security features, including authentication, backend validation, and database security rules where applicable. No software system can guarantee absolute security, so users should also protect access to their own devices.
6. Children's Privacy
ScanCart is not intended for children under the age of 13. Elmvick does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
7. Your Choices and Controls
You may deny Camera or Location permissions, although some features may not work correctly; delete local cart history or app data from your device; uninstall the app to remove locally stored app data; and contact Elmvick about privacy or deletion requests.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
Elmvick may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
